A small Pacific island called Elugelab in the Eniwetok Atoll once existed … until this day in 1952, when it vanished in a 25-mile high mushroom cloud created by the United States’ first H-Bomb detonation.  The 5-megaton bomb called “Mike” caused consternation around the world as East and West contemplated doomsday.
